Kamino Lend supports two distinct position modes enabling customized borrowing strategies based on your needs:
  • Cross Mode: The default mode allowing multiple collateral and debt assets
  • Isolated Mode: A specialized mode for single collateral/debt pairs with enhanced liquidity
Cross vs Isolated Modes

Cross Mode

Cross Mode is the default position mode in Kamino Lend. In Cross Mode, a user can have multiple collateral assets and debt assets in the same position. This approach enables:
  • Multiple collateral assets deployed simultaneously
  • Multiple borrowable assets within one position
  • Cross-collateralization benefits
  • Generally more conservative risk parameters
  • Reduced overall borrow capacity compared to Isolated Mode
Best for: Users wanting to deploy diverse assets or manage complex portfolio strategies.

Isolated Mode

Isolated Mode is a new feature that allows customized risk configurations for specific collateral/debt combinations in a single market. Key characteristics:
  • Single collateral asset requirement
  • Single debt asset requirement
  • Enhanced borrow capacity relative to Cross Mode
  • Less restrictive risk parameters
  • Available only for eligible asset pairs
Best for: Users seeking maximum leverage on specific collateral-debt pairs.

Mode Selection Guide

Choose Cross Mode when:
  • You want to cross-collateralize multiple assets
  • You prefer maintaining diverse positions
Choose Isolated Mode when:
  • You’re targeting a specific collateral/debt pair
  • You need greater liquidity access
  • You want higher loan-to-value (LTV) ratios

Toggling Between Modes

From Isolated to Cross: You can switch freely if Cross Mode has sufficient liquidity to support your position. From Cross to Isolated: Requires an eligible collateral/debt combination. Not all asset pairs support Isolated Mode.

Available Isolated Pairs (Beta)

Currently supported pairs include:
  • SOL/PYUSD (Main Market)
  • USDC/USDT (Main Market)
  • LST/SOL pairs (Main Market)
Isolated Mode is in beta with limited pair availability. Additional pairs will be added progressively.

User Interface

Users will now see a Position Mode toggle in the UI, allowing seamless switching between modes based on your borrowing strategy and market conditions. Position Mode Toggle
